The village of Foncebadón is a village particularly connected to the Camino, as it was largely abandoned until the revival of the pilgrimage in the mid-twentieth century. Today, it has many services to welcome travelers and offers a quiet stop in a peaceful environment. A little later is the highest point on the French Camino; Cruz de Ferro - a long pole with a cross at the end. According to tradition, the pilgrims take a stone with them from home which they take along the Camino, it symbolizes the burden they want to leave behind. At this point, the stone is left at the foot of the cross, thereby removing the burden from us.
